Setting Up a New Barber Chair
Your new barber chair has arrived—congratulations! This is an exciting moment for any shop owner. But before your first client sits down, a proper setup is essential for safety, stability, and the longevity of your chair. Follow these simple tips to get your new centerpiece assembled and ready for action.
Unboxing and Inspection
Before you even pick up a tool, carefully unbox all the components. Lay everything out on a soft surface, like a blanket or a piece of cardboard, to avoid scratching the finish. Check the parts list that came with your chair and make sure everything is accounted for. This is also the best time to inspect each piece for any potential damage that may have occurred during shipping.
Assembly: Step-by-Step
Most barber chairs are straightforward to assemble, but don't rush it. It's often helpful to have a second person to help you lift and position the heavier parts.
- Attach the Base and Pump: Your first step is usually attaching the hydraulic pump to the base. Make sure all bolts are tightened securely to prevent any wobbling.
- Mount the Seat: Carefully place the main seat component onto the hydraulic pump. It should slide on securely. Once it's in place, attach the armrests and footrest according to the instructions. Don't fully tighten all the bolts until the chair is mostly assembled, which allows for small adjustments.
- Final Tightening: Once all the pieces are in place, go back and tighten every bolt. Give the chair a good shake to ensure there is no movement or instability. A stable chair is a safe chair.
Final Safety and Functionality Checks
With assembly complete, it's time for a final check. Test the hydraulic pump by raising and lowering the chair several times. Test the swivel and the locking mechanism to ensure they engage and disengage smoothly. Finally, test the recline feature to make sure it operates correctly and holds its position. Once you're confident everything is working perfectly, give it a final wipe-down and place your new anti-fatigue mat at the base. You're ready for business!
